Continuing Global Growth with High Value-Added Products Akcoat Makes a Difference with Its R&D Center
Strengthening its position in global markets through investments in R&D, Akcoat spent TRY 60 million on R&D in 2024 and continued innovation-led growth with 188 projects and 111 patent applications.
Serving more than 65 countries across six continents, Akcoat hosted representatives of local media organizations at its R&D Center in Sakarya. Acting General Manager Ömer Semiz shared insights into Akcoat’s position in the industry and its R&D investments.
Developing performance-driven innovative solutions through its strong R&D team and well-equipped center, Akcoat has been producing across five main product groups—enamel, ceramic, glass, non-stick and decorative coatings, and pigments—on two continents for nearly half a century. Akcoat is the market leader in Türkiye and the world’s second-largest enamel coating producer, maintaining its industry leadership through steadily increasing international sales and production capacity.
Expressing their satisfaction in being one of Türkiye’s leading companies in line with Akcoat’s goal of contributing to the Turkish economy and employment, Acting General Manager Ömer Semiz said:
“At Akcoat, we aim to generate technological knowledge, develop innovations in products and production methods, improve product quality and standards, increase efficiency, establish technology-intensive production conditions and strengthen scientific and technological infrastructure through academic-industry collaboration, with the goal of making Turkish industry internationally competitive and export-oriented. In this context, in 2021 we commissioned our new R&D campus with a major global investment of approximately USD 10 million. Covering a total area of 10,000 m², our campus is one of Türkiye’s largest R&D centers. In addition to dedicated laboratories for enamel, ceramic, non-stick and decorative, glass coating and pigment products, the campus includes characterization and analysis laboratories that enable materials to be examined from a 360-degree perspective.”
Sharing the concrete results of Akcoat’s R&D work, Semiz said: “Our R&D strength was the driving force behind all our activities throughout 2024. At our R&D campus, a total of 30 researchers—including 3 PhD holders, 9 PhD candidates, 11 master’s graduates, 4 master’s students and 3 bachelor’s graduates—carried out 188 R&D projects. We filed 111 patent applications and registered 88 designs. With 111 international publications and academic papers, we also maintained our leadership in scientific knowledge creation.”
