Akcoat Strengthens Its Renewable Energy Commitment with I-REC Certification
Taking its commitment to sustainability one step further, Akcoat has obtained the I-REC (International Renewable Energy Certificate), which verifies the use of renewable energy. The company announced that 73% of its energy consumption is supplied from renewable sources.
Specializing in a wide range of product groups including enamel, ceramic, glass, non-stick and decorative coatings, and pigments, Akcoat has reached an important milestone in its sustainability journey. By obtaining I-REC, the international certificate that verifies renewable energy use, Akcoat has officially documented that a significant share of its energy consumption is supplied from clean sources. Highlighting that, thanks to Akcoat’s successful collaboration with Sepaş Energy, 73% of the company’s energy consumption in 2024 was supplied from renewable sources, Akcoat General Manager Burç Yıldırım commented on this important achievement as follows:
“In line with Akkök Holding’s sustainability principles, at Akcoat we place our commitment to environmentally responsible and sustainable production processes at the heart of our business strategies. With the I-REC certificate, we have once again demonstrated our commitment to renewable energy sources and environmentally conscious production. Supplying 73% of our energy consumption from renewable sources has been a critical step not only in achieving our goals to reduce our environmental impact, but also in leading the sustainability transformation in our industry. We will continue to increase our efforts in this direction in the future.”
Yıldırım concluded: “At Akcoat, we will continue to accelerate our efforts to increase renewable energy use, reduce our carbon footprint and leave a cleaner world for future generations.”
What is the I-REC Certificate?
I-REC is an international certification standard that verifies that generated or consumed electricity comes from renewable energy sources. Containing information such as the source of electricity generation, the generation date and other relevant details, the certificate ensures the traceability of renewable energy and offers important advantages to both producers and consumers.
These certificates help accelerate the transition from fossil-fuel-based energy systems to renewable energy sources while enabling energy consumers to verify the origin of the energy they use. They also contribute to national and international energy targets by reducing carbon emissions and support the sustainability of energy trading, representing an important step toward environmental sustainability.
